Qwest (formerly US West)
Portland, Salem, Dallas, St. Helens, OR.

Growth in the telecommunications field has resulted in higher power densities (Watts per square foot) that require improved cooling and air quality system. ISI has designed new systems and made modifications to seven Qwest facilities covering over 46,000 square foot areas. Total cooling systems amounted to over 300 tons of air conditioning.

Typical HVAC designs include HVAC equipment redundancy, minimum efficiency filtration of up to 85 percent, and DDC controls. Most projects have tight constraints on space available for equipment and ductwork. In a couple of projects 3D design models were created. For example, on the Belmont facility in Portland, air-handling equipment was selected to be maintained from below the unit and a 3D model was designed to optimize duct sizes, maintenance space requirements and system performance.

Another example can be seen in the design of the penthouse for the Keizer, Salem facility. A 3D model was developed to optimize the equipment layout and the ductwork distribution system to the building.
