ISI, in association with PacifiCorp, conducted an energy analysis evaluation that considered various refrigeration systems and the use of floating heads on R-22 and ammonia systems. Two energy efficiency measures were analyzed: 1) The replacement of individual unitary refrigeration equipment for the freezers with a higher efficiency centralized system, and 2) The use of ammonia based refrigeration system with economizer and floating head controls for a spiral freezer compared to a less expensive baseline R-22 system. Both measures were successfully implemented and they had a payback ranged from 5 to 6 years before utility incentives and tax credits.
